Comprehensive R120 G/S conversion styled after classic GS models

The R120 G/S 40th Anniversary Kit fundamentally changes the appearance of the BMW R 1200 GS without permanently modifying the original parts. It combines echoes of the GS from the 1980s with the comfort and rideability of the base motorcycle. Depending on the version, the kit is available for models from 2004 to 2007 or from 2008 to 2012.

According to the manufacturer, the replacement parts weigh a total of 6,4 kg less than the original components. Four kilograms of this saving are accounted for by components in front of the handlebars. This is intended to make the converted motorcycle easier to handle in the city and on mixed routes than the standard model.

Conversion and Reversal

Tank Fairing and Seat

Depending on the designated version, the front fender can be mounted high on the headlight frame mounting points or low in the original position. According to the manufacturer, the matte black version is intended for low mounting.

Information on Case Systems and Original Parts

Original ADV aluminum cases with metal frames can be used in the R120-G/S configuration. The separately available Unit Garage case frame is required for original Vario plastic cases. The original Vario case mounts cannot be installed directly on the kit. Original R1200-GS logos and the optional covers for the case frame holes are not included in the kit.

The five upper original clips from the motorcycle are used to connect the tank covers. The supplied M5 × 12 mm button-head screws must be inserted into these clips. According to the manufacturer, the original pointed M5 screws must not be used, as they may damage the tank.

Compatibility

The kit is compatible with BMW R 1200 GS models from model years 2004 to 2012. When selecting, distinguish between the 2004–2007 and 2008–2012 versions. The manufacturer reserves the right to make changes to improve the efficiency of the kit; images may therefore show an earlier version.
